VMware is banking on its NSX controller, which came from the vendor's $1.2 billion acquisition of Nicira, in a quest to bring virtualization technology to networks. NSX is hypervisor and hardware agnostic, VMware's Martin Casado says. "What we are doing is providing functionality for traffic management within the data center. There's nothing that can do that level of protection for the east-west traffic," Casado says.
