Scientists have discovered that parts of rats' brains remain active after their hearts stop beating, suggesting that some form of consciousness may continue for at least a few moments after death. The researchers plan to revive the rats and try to establish what they recall about their near-death experiences. "There's still so much we don't know," says neurophysiologist Jimo Borjigin.
