Wild foxes near the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado have tested positive for rabies, and one attacked a man trying to protect his dog. Zoo veterinarian Eric Klaphake explains the three-part strategy used to protect zoo animals from the deadly disease: A perimeter fence helps keep most wildlife from gaining access to the zoo, and the zoo also vaccinates its residents. Additionally, staff attend training sessions and discuss rabies during staff meetings and via e-mail, Dr. Klaphake says.
