The AICPA and XBRL US have instituted an online eXtensible Business Reporting Language certificate program, which launched July 9. The program offers training to accounting professionals to create and ensure high-quality U.S. GAAP XBRL-formatted financial statements, says AICPA President and CEO Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA. In a survey of AICPA members, a majority of respondents say they need expert knowledge of XBRL, but only 28% have it. Many companies are required by the Securities and Exchange Commission to submit XBRL-formatted financial statements.
