There's more to a light-rail line than trains and tracks, and that has upset some Maryland residents who learned that an electrical substation could be built near their homes. In addition, the proposed $2.15 billion Purple Line project that would create a 16-mile path between New Carrollton and Bethesda would include more than a dozen other power substations, a ventilation structure, signal buildings and a tunnel. Construction could begin in 2015 if the project is approved and funded.
