An 11,800-acre area about 24 miles east of Virginia Beach, Va., is scheduled for auction, beginning Wednesday, by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management in the nation's second-ever offshore wind power lease sale. The area's winds have the potential to generate more than 2,000 megawatts of electricity, the bureau said. Apex Virginia Offshore Wind, Virginia Electric and Power Company, Energy Management, EDF Renewable Development, Fisherman's Energy, Iberdrola Renewables, Sea Breeze Energy and Orisol Energy have qualified to join in the auction.
