Researchers found four new species of legless lizards around central and Southern California. Legless lizards are often confused with snakes, but unlike snakes, many have movable eyelids and external ear openings, and typically spend their entire lives underground. Researchers looking for legless lizards placed thousands of pieces of cardboard at various sites since the creatures like to live in moist areas underground or near the surface.
