A recent decision by a Pennsylvania judge to halt the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples does not address the validity of the 174 marriage licenses that have already been handed out to same-sex couples in the state. The county clerk who defied state law in issuing the licenses and at least one attorney in the state say they believe the licenses are valid. Separately, the ACLU has initiated a challenge to the state's ban on marriage equality.
