With the PC business in a protracted slump, Advanced Micro Devices introduced a new line of processors for embedded electronics. IDC estimates that shipments of embedded systems, such as digital signs and military/aerospace electronics, will increase to 11 billion units by 2017, compared with 8.6 billion units last year. AMD also detailed its "Hierofalcon" processor, a 64-bit system-on-a-chip device which is based on the ARM Cortex-A57 core design and will be available by mid-2014.
