A still-struggling building industry, low interest rates and high unemployment are three reasons that now is a good time to rebuild America's infrastructure, according to journalist Alex Marshall. Neal Peirce, a columnist, says the easiest way to pay for this would be a gas hike, something he says is unlikely in this political climate. But he also notes that funding could be found via other means. "But if we don't apply [the dollars] soon, the United States will fall more and more behind today's global infrastructure -- and competitiveness -- standards," he writes.
