Vodafone's decision to shed its Verizon Wireless stake has left analysts pondering whether AT&T would take a run at the carrier or whether the British telecom may elect to expand itself, perhaps buying fixed-wireline operations. Vodafone leaves itself "small enough to be a very attractive target," said Robin Bienenstock, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein. "AT&T has made it clear that they’re interested in European wireless assets, and SoftBank has made it clear that it wants to be big."
