The opening general session of the ASTA Global Convention in Miami saw between 350 and 400 participants as the association kicks off four days of discussions on current challenges the industry faces, capped by a keynote speech by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Sept. 19. Outgoing ASTA chairwoman Nina Meyer took the stage during the opening session to introduce the newly elected board of directors, including new chairman John Lovell. Anthony Chang of APF Travel/Go Latin was recognized as the ASTA Young Professional of the Year, while the distinction of ASTA's Chapters of the Year were awarded to the Great Lakes and Southern California chapters.
