The Federal Communications Commission must modernize its mission and stop operating as a wireline agency in a wireless world, warned Jim Cicconi, AT&T's top Washington executive in a speech on Tuesday. Cicconi called on incoming FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler to address the issues "to reflect the fundamental evolution in communications that IP technology and the Internet have wrought." He said the agency has no business making policy in certain areas, such as competition, as well as choosing winners and losers among companies.
