August domestic oil production reached almost 7.6 million barrels per day, up 20.3% from the same month in 2012, according to the American Petroleum Institute. This is the highest figure for the month in 25 years. Unconventional plays, including the Bakken Shale play in North Dakota, contributed to the surge in production, API said.
