About 23.5% of diabetes patients studied did not comply with recommended eye examinations, according to a study in Diabetes Care. Researchers found 39.7% of patients said they did not need eye care, while 32.3% noted cost or lack of insurance and 21.5% cited other factors as barriers to getting eye exams. Creating better public messages and addressing financial hurdles and disease-related conditions may improve eye care in diabetes patients, researchers concluded.
