As more customers use mobile banking, institutions such as Bank of America are moving to more self-service options and away from drive-thru banking. For example, BofA says that in July, 13 million customers used their smartphones to deposit about 160,000 checks a day, and half of deposits were made via ATMs. Although drive-thru teller lanes are waning in popularity, banks say drive-thru ATMs continue to be well-used.
