The Bloody Mary is an ever-popular cocktail for several reasons, including its rich tomato juice base and the classic recipe's adaptability. The Bloody Mary lends itself to almost endless variation and bartenders through the years have experimented with different elements to give it kick -- Louisiana hot sauce, horseradish or traditional Tabasco sauce. It's also classically made with vodka, though gin makes a nice variation. The original recipe, created by an American bartender in Paris during World War I who received a welcome shipment of tomato juice from the U.S., didn't even include alcohol. One creative and extra spicy version called the Bloody Bull is a New Orleans specialty of master barman Tony Abou-Ganim. Read more.
