As many as 50% of children with a genetic disorder called 22q11.2 deletion syndrome were diagnosed with autism, but U.S. researchers found that none of the 29 children with the deletion disorder met the diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorder. The findings, published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, show the need for more accurate assessments for autism among children with the genetic disorder.
