Non-tech companies with roots in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Clorox and Gap, are drawing on Silicon Valley's lessons to improve their information technology. The companies are upgrading IT infrastructures and adopting cultural aspects of tech firms. "People in the Valley take a different approach to things," says Ralph Loura, chief information officer at Clorox. "I can tap into that rich source of innovation and startups and find creative solutions."
