Community health workers could help improve acceptance of and access to palliative and hospice care in minority and other population groups, as well as promote advance directives, according to Dr. Jonathan Giftos, referring to an article in the New England Journal of Medicine. Giftos writes in GeriPal that these workers could facilitate "informal discussions in which patients could assign health care proxies, discuss advance directives and broadly describe their end-of-life wishes in a familiar, unpressured environment."
