The Environmental Protection Agency is considering guidance or regulations on the use of inherently safer technology at chemical facilities, according to Mathy Stanislaus, the EPA assistant administrator for solid waste and emergency response. Stanislaus is leading a federal working group on chemical security, requested in President Barack Obama's recent executive order. The group will begin holding public meetings in late October and seeks to develop a "standard operating procedure" for federal regulation of chemical facilities, this article says.
