Esri will soon launch the latest version of CityEngine, a program that creates 3D models of cityscapes with a relatively simple code capable of generating tens of thousands of buildings at the click of a button. It's the same technology used to model the skyline seen in the film "Man of Steel," but the code is aimed at allowing developers to fit the models for their own uses. Local governments have used the software to plan developments, although it has caught on more quickly in the entertainment industry, Esri's Gert van Maren said.
