Cybersecurity protection won't be affected by a federal government shutdown, officials say. One reason is that much such work is handled by third parties and outside contractors. Long term, however, the government's focus on greater data transparency will require investment to tweak policies regarding data sharing and protection. "Securing the data, even if it's public, it's open, you still have to protect the integrity of that data, make sure the data has not been changed and whatever you serve out there is accurate to the public," says Naeem Musa of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
