Landlords for nearly 1,550 properties in Chicago have cashed renters' Section 8 vouchers since 2012 while their properties were in foreclosure, according to an analysis by The Chicago Reporter and WBEZ. In addition, since 2008, banks have taken possession of more than 2,400 buildings in which voucher holders lived before the foreclosure sales. Properties that go into foreclosure often fall short of the Chicago Housing Authority's health and safety requirements.
