The Tips From Former Smokers campaign, which featured graphic images of former smokers whose health deteriorated because of their habit, prompted a total of 353,000 calls to the campaign's toll-free quit line and approximately 2.8 million unique website visits, the CDC reports. Federal health officials wrote in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report that weekly calls and website visits declined by 41% and 96%, respectively, in the month following the end of the campaign.
