U.S. alcohol market studies typically treat wine and beer drinkers as separate groups. However, one-quarter of high-frequency wine drinkers say they also drink beer on a daily basis or several times a week, with 60% reporting they do not drink domestic beer, but prefer craft brews, said John Gillespie of Wine Opinions at the Wine Industry Financial Symposium. The same wine drinkers, if choosing a spirit, prefer Grey Goose vodka and "never" drink Canadian whiskey, brandy or Cognac. The poll included 1,151 wine drinkers who report having wine daily or several times per week, including 555 high-end wine drinkers.
