The rate of new HIV cases has fallen 33% since 2001, a U.N. report says. New cases of HIV/AIDS worldwide fell from 2.5 million in 2011 to 2.3 million in 2012, while deaths related to the illness dropped to 1.6 million in 2012, down from 2005's peak of 2.3 million. The number of patients with access to treatment in low- and middle-income countries grew by almost 20% to 9.7 million last year.
