Middle-school math teacher Jose Vilson participated this summer in a series of professional development workshops on the campus of the NASA Kennedy Space Center. In this blog post, he describes one workshop in which educators built rovers with kits and mapped terrain using the rover's data on altitude and slopes. Among other lessons, Vilson writes the experience taught participants to embrace the unknowns of space exploration. "As learners, we could only control what we knew given the tools we had: a rover, a calculator, a ruler and an eight-bit map," he said.
