After surviving cancer, Illinois high-school teacher Brett Weiss decided it was time to do more to make a difference in the world. A trip to the village of Dago, Kenya, prompted Weiss to create a scholarship program that sends young people from the village to high school while inspiring one of his students at Bartlett High School to start an after-school club in which nearly three dozen students volunteer for charities. "My job is to turn you from a bystander to an upstander," Weiss said of his students.
