"Zeutering," or the chemical sterilization of male dogs using Zeuterin injections, isn't widely used but is an alternative to surgical neutering that maintains the appearance of an intact male and doesn't require general anesthesia, according to veterinarian Amy Raines of the Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley in California, where the procedure is offered. It won't necessarily curb hormone-related behavior problems in male dogs, though, according to veterinarian Allan Drusys, who says treated dogs will still ardently seek females in heat and may exhibit sex-related aggression.
