A group of LGBT advocacy organizations launched a campaign Monday aimed at influencing public opinion on marriage equality in Ohio. Why Marriage Matters Ohio is sponsored by Freedom to Marry, the Human Rights Campaign and several state-based organizations. The campaign kicked off with events in Cleveland and Cincinnati that featured speeches from Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and Democratic state Rep. Denise Driehaus. Polling suggests that Ohioans are evenly split on whether same-sex couples should be allowed to marry in the state.
