Plastic surgery patients who took extended-release bupivacaine liposome injectable suspension, such as Exparel and Pacira, as an adjunct treatment to help control pain reported lower pain scores and used fewer opioid drugs, according to a study presented at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery meeting. Plastic surgeon Stephan Finical of Charlotte Plastic Surgery, who wrote about the study in Cosmetic Surgery Times, said the drug worked well for patients having breast augmentation or reduction surgery or abdominoplasty, so he is "extending its use to facial cosmetic surgery."
