Board games are being used to teach students at Quest to Learn schools in New York and Chicago to work out math problems and learn other concepts. One game, a modified version of Settlers of Catan called "Caterpillar," teaches sixth-grade students about frequency and probability. The games, advocates say, can be used to assess learning by having students write strategies to help classmates win.
