A survey by the American Medical Association revealed that while the percentage of physician practice owners saw an 8% decline from 2007/2008 to 2012, 60% of U.S. doctors work in such practices. The survey also found that 18% of physicians worked in solo practice in 2012, while 45.5% of doctors were in single specialty group practice last year. Older physicians were more likely to have an ownership stake in their practice.
