Women who suffered maternal obesity were more likely than were their healthier peers to develop essential and pregnancy-induced hypertension and gestational diabetes, according to a study on the website of BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Researchers also found that women who were underweight, overweight or obese had higher percentages of hospital admissions and higher medical expenses compared with those who were of a normal weight.
