Data from a nationally representative sample of 35,000 11- to 16-year-olds gathered in 2001-2002, 2005-2006 and 2009-2010 showed an increase in the number of days per week that children and teens got the recommended amount of physical activity, less time spent watching TV and greater frequency of fruit and vegetable intake. However, researchers reported in the journal Pediatrics that the number of overweight or obese children did not drop during the study period, increasing in 2005-2006, then holding steady in 2009-2010.
