While the numbers of women in social science careers, and jobs related to math are on the rise, recent data reveal that women remain significantly underrepresented in computer and engineering fields. Women comprise only 11.1% of computer-network architects and just 6.3% of mechanical engineers. "Young women look at computer science and feel like they don't belong," said Telle Whitney, president of the Anita Borg Institute, which aims to raise the ranks of women in technology.
