Food waste in school cafeterias is costing more now that schools are serving healthier food options under new federal standards, said Craig P. Orvis, foodservice director for a New York school district. What's more, as the cost of preparing healthier meals has increased, some school districts in the state now are considering raising meal prices. Others are making changes to make the food more appealing to help increase the number of students eating school meals.
