The Marcellus Shale play has eased supply concerns for Pennsylvania natural gas utilities, several representatives said during a conference. National Fuel Gas used to obtain gas from the Gulf of Mexico, Canada and other regions before the shale drilling boom, but now the Marcellus provides about 80% of its supplies, said Bruce Heine, vice president of the company. Philadelphia Gas Works was also concerned about maintaining a secure gas supply but now it is promoting natural gas for cooling and for heat and power systems, said Craig White, the company's CEO.
