U.S. Forest Service Pilot Rick Gicla spends almost half the year fighting wildfires in several states. After he got his pilot's license, his mother helped him open a charter service. In 2000 he went to work for the Forest Service and became certified as a lead wildfire pilot. "I've just always liked airplanes since I was a little kid. When I decided I wanted to learn to fly, I saw it as a career path," Gicla explained.
