Scientists at Cornell University studying the Arabidopsis thaliana, a small flower plant, say they've discovered a gene that can stave off wilting at high levels. The S3H gene interacts with salicylic acid to keep plants fresh longer, and further research may use the findings to create a way to keep greens and fruit fresh for weeks longer, said horticulture professor Su-Sheng Gan.
