University of California, Los Angeles, researchers have designed a tool known as the Dementia Prognosis Index to predict dementia risk among patients with mild cognitive impairment. The software uses PET data to develop a numerical assessment of cognitive and functional decline in parts of the brain affected by Alzheimer's disease. To identify a patient's risk, the information is compared with data from parts of the brain that are unaffected by dementia. The findings were presented at the SNMMI Annual Meeting.
