The market for preferred shares has slowed down considerably as interest rates rise. But not all issuers have left the space. Companies with strong cash flows, such as REITs, are still very interested in this type of security. "Now that the summer is over, new issuance will crank up again, but probably at higher yields," said William Scapell, who oversees investments in preferred stock funds at Cohen & Steers.
