Total workers' compensation costs in Minnesota increased to $1.28 per $100 of payroll in 2011 from $1.24 the prior year, mainly because of higher medical expenses, according to a report from the state Department of Labor and Industry. Claims frequency in the state decreased to 4.6 claims per 100 full-time-equivalent employees in 2011, compared with 4.9 the previous year, the report said.
