Restaurant operators reported a smaller-than-expected increase in same-store sales and a net drop in traffic in July, leading to a decline in expectations for the next six months, according to the National Restaurant Association's monthly performance index. "Most notably, restaurant operators' outlook for the economy fell to a five-month low, with only 23% expecting business conditions to improve in the next six months," said senior VP Hudson Riehle.
