The U.S. accounted for 43% of global biofuel use for transportation in 2011, with ethanol making up 94% of the U.S. total, according to a report from the International Energy Agency. Brazil accounted for about 25% of global biofuel use, the IEA said. The ethanol industry is second only to the chemical pulp and paper industry in terms of global biomass utilization for energy, the report showed.
