A study supported by SCAI Women in Innovations assessed the use of drug-eluting stents in women, who have been proportionally underrepresented in safety and efficacy research, finding DES are safer and more effective than bare-metal devices. SCAI fellow and SCAI-WIN co-founder Dr. Roxana Mehran discussed the findings at the European Society of Cardiology meeting. "The global response and collaboration on this effort is unprecedented and represents a large step forward for women in cardiovascular disease treatment," Mehran said. "These findings will help cardiologists deliver optimal care for patients."
