Scientists from The Institute of Cancer Research in London analyzed the genomes of more than 1,500 children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and found two single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with susceptibility to the disease. One of these variants, known as rs3824662, was tied to a tumor subtype that was found to increase the incidence of relapse and worsen overall survival. The findings appear in the journal Blood.
