Recalling the no-nonsense approach of his own fifth-grade teacher, middle-grades educator Bill Ferriter ponders the question of whether today's teachers inadvertently have made things too easy for students. In a blog post he calls "unpolished" and without all of the answers to "knotty questions," Ferriter writes that his teacher gave verbal homework instructions, rather than posting the information on the board -- or online, an approach that required organization by students or they face the consequences.
