U.S. researchers who stratified more than 1,500 outpatients based on 2009 appropriate-use criteria for technetium-99m sestamibi SPECT imaging found that appropriate use boosted SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging's prognostic value in patients with suspected or known ischemic heart disease. The findings, however, may not be broadly applicable, according to an editorial accompanying the study.
